A Facebook Page for your business or organisation offers a powerful way to build communication with your fans or people who have Liked you through their News Feeds and also enables you to keep them updated on what’s happening in your business.

Public page that can be found on Google

Something people don’t always realised is that as Facebook Like Pages are fully public pages on Facebook (unlike Profiles), they can gain a high or low ranking in the search engines. This is obviously important, as a high page ranking in say Google, will offer another channel of visitors who may go on to buy your products or services.

If you have created a Facebook Page, the idea of optimising it for the search engines may not have occurred to  you, but it could be more important than you imagine, for a few very simple reasons.

Facebook Pages need effort to drive visitors

In my experience a Facebook Page, won’t grow its traffic, or Likes greatly without some effort from the owner. You need to actively drive visitors to it either directly or in the form of Likes, for it to grow as a resource to your business.

So a decent listing in Google or Bing will mean your Facebook Page could be found for relevant keyword searches that will drive in visitors, without you needing to do anything else.

Why You Need to Make sure your Facebook Page is found on Google & Bing — 14 Comments

  1. Hi

I recently created a Facebook business page and I am unable to find it on Google.Even when I type the exact URL- http://www.facebook.com/TravelistaProductions i can’t find it !!!

Secondly, my business page is not even displayed in Facebook drop down menu when my friends type its name. Even though they have liked my page, Facebook doesn’t show my page. The drop down menu says 0 results found. However, when they go ahead and click ‘See more results’ in the drop down menu, the link to my page is displayed.

    Please help me !!!

    • Hi Akshuna,

Facebook Pages can be tricky to get to display in Google and even on Facebook’s own search.

Starting with Google I did a search for “Travelista Productions“, and it came up as number 2, so you must be doing something right!

In my experience it helps with Google if the Facebook Page About page is well written with plenty of text about the company. This seems to be where Google builds it’s view of the business on Facebook, so is worth putting some effort in there. Also Keep regular posting to the Facebook page wall as in the longer run that should help as well.

Regarding the Facebook search problem, it is hard to say. My guess is that over time; and if you spend time improving the visibility of the Page this problem may solved itself as the Page is gets better visibility in Facebook.

      Hope this helps.

    • Hi Amanda,
I had a quick look at your Facebook Page and can see you have a good lot of text on the Info page, which always helps with the search engines finding the page. A couple of ideas, maybe include the word party or parties in the title, also have you linked back to the FB page from your website (and any other sites you have)? Sometimes it can take a while for the FB page to be found, so keep trying.
      Regards
      David

  3. I have a page on facebook as Christa Leduc and then I have added a page as CL Wire-art Jewellery. I would like to make my CL Wire-art Jewellery page as my primary page and Christa Leduc as my secondary page. Does anyone know how to switch the pages? When select use pagebook as CL Wire-art Jewellery, the next time I open facebook it opens in Christa Leduc. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    • Hi there Christa,
The Pages in Facebook are completely separate from your profile page. So you first login to your Facebook profile and then click the Account link in the top right open the drop-down, where you can choose to use Facebook as a Page. This will then log you in as an Administration on that page, where you can edit etc.
      Hope this helps.

  4. Up to now I’ve never really put much thought into my Facebook page other then posint my links and videos on it. After reading this post I’ll be changing how I do things with it. Thanks for posting this
