At the top you have a daily view of visitor numbers and then some top level statistics in the “Site Usage”.

Below this are various boxes showing slightly more detailed views of things like Traffic Sources, Keywords and Content page viewed.

Left side navigation

But to really find out what is going on with your website visitors you’ll need to start investigating the navigation down the left side. The ones we find we check most often are the map overlay, keywords, content pages, landing pages, content, traffic sources and goals.

Google Analytics Map Overlay

Working from the top click the “Visitors” link and then the “Map Overlay”.

This shows a map of the world and underneath it you can click through to more details on each country.

A quick note here about Goals. This represent important visitor actions such as making an enquiry or buying something.

In most screens in Analytics you will have a top saying “Goal Set 1″, or 2 etc. By clicking on these tabs you will quickly get a better idea of which visitors are adding more value to your website.

Google Analytics Traffic Sources

There are two links we’ve found are really useful in the “Traffic Sources” area and these are “All Traffic Sources” and “Keywords”.

The “All Traffic Sources” is just that. It shows where all the website traffic has come from, for the chosen time period. As with many pages reports there is a Goal tab as well to find out which source is sending the quality visitors.
