Web page freshness is a factor in search engine position

Google is already factoring in a web page’s age or when it was last updated as a part of the page scoring process, and is making no secret on how focused it is in looking for fresh content.

Get into the habit of creating fresh content for your website

So getting into the habit of creating quality fresh content for your website can only be a good thing. Note I say “qualtiy” content. Just churning out any old content on hashed together pages from other sources, won’t help and may do harm to your rankings.

It’s easy to take advantage of this change

Google say they make up to 200 tweaks to their search algorithms every year. Often it can be difficult and complex for the website owner to adapt his or her SEO strategy to take best advantage of them.

Make use of your website’s CMS

Not so with this update. Just about every modern website has some form of content management system (CMS), that allows you to edit the web page content and create new pages as often as you wish.

Put aside time at least once a week

And that’s exactly what you need to do. Try and put aside some time every week (preferably more than once a week, daily even if you’re a web focused business), that you can spend updating website pages, and creating new ones on topics relating to your business.

This could be anything from a new product or service, some recent news on your company or some tips and guides relating to your products or services.

Why keeping website content fresh is going to be important in 2012 — 1 Comment

  1. I totally agree that fresh content is important. The problem will come when people are creating content just for the sake of it. Still worse, when people start inventing non-existent projects or products just in order to create content. I’m just not sure that the current algorithms can or even will spot the difference.
Information overload is becomming a real danger at the moment, and this will make things worse.
