Answering people’s questions is the new SEO! Its not just about keywords anymore…
More and more people are entering questions or statements in the search box these days.
Answer those questions with your webpages to drive more visitors to your site from the search engines.
When was the last time you looked through your websites search traffic keyword list? If you’ve looked lately you may have noticed that the keyword phrases people are entering into the search box (and then transferred into Google Analytics) are getting longer.
In fact many of them are not keyword phrases at all anymore, and are just as likely to be short questions or statements instead.
Google new focus on the Knowledge Graph.
One reason for this may be to do with Google’s focus on their new Knowledge Graph. The Knowledge Graph enables you to search for things, people and places, and if Google knows an answer it may show it to the right of the results page, without you having to leave the Google search engine.
People are entering questions more.
So what difference does this make, if you want to optimise your website for Google? One thing I’ve found that seems to be happening already, is that people may tend to enter questions into the search engine rather then just simple keyword phrase.
This could offer an opportunity for you to answer those questions in your web pages and so bring those page up high in Google.
Here’s an example…
For example, one phrase that is often entered into Google by people wanting to lift their Facebook Pages in Google is: “how to make my facebook page searchable in google”.
A few months back I wrote a short guide entitled: Why You Need to Make sure your Facebook Page is found on Google & Bing, which is now well positioned on the first page of Google if you enter the questions: ”how to make my facebook page searchable in google”
How do I take advantage of this?
So how do you go about taking advantage of this. First thing as mentioned above is to go through your website analytics keywords and look to see whether the site is already coming up for longer question or statement related phrases.
If this is starting to happen already, you can build on these, by developing more website pages that answer more specific questions people might ask about your business, products or services.
Overtime you should hopefully improve the chance of your website ranking high in Google
This way over time you’ll hopefully increase the chance of your site appearing high in Google when searchers enter those questions into Google.
