Not surprisingly search engines take a bit of a dim view of this as well. From their point of view, if you’ve got broken links, and you’re not fixing them it seems to show you’re not that bothered about your visitor experience, and this could affect your rankings.
So it makes sense to check all the links, both internal and external are working on every page of your site. Unfortunately this can take time and it is likely you have better things to do with your time.
One solution is to use a link checker tool. There are quite a number of these around and one I’ve found recently comes from www.statmyweb.com. All you need to do is visit their Broken Link Checker page. Enter your website address and press “Analyze Web”. All the good links will be ticked and a cross will mark any broken ones.
