Can I successfully optimise my own website rather than use an SEO Company?

How difficult can it be to do SEO...

Over the years we've delivered training to hundreds of business people to help them optimise their own websites and the feed back from these people is that once they've understood what needs to be done they can do just as good a job as the professionals. But there are a few things to consider before you start optimising your own website.

Have I got the time?

We've found it takes at least 1/2 an hour to optimise one web page properly. This includes a bit of time to research the best keywords and then build them into the text and meta tags. This is just the initial time, further time may be taken in follow-up work to ensure the page is performing as well as possible.

Have I got the skills?

We actually think that SEO is easier than many people think. The basic principle is getting keyword phrases on the page that you think people will use when they are searching for you. Even useing these phrases when you write the content will help greatly with this. To help  you Google has written a great SEO Starter Guide, and it shows in simple terms what you need to do.

  1. Good optimisation will happen if you oversee both the on the page and off the page aspects well at the same time. There is no point in being strong in one of the two areas; you have to be strong in both of them and then you will see results!

  2. I’ve hosted and done pretty well with most of the websites I’ve had but always found there was something lacking or maybe google keeps moving the goalposts and I have to learn something new? So I’ll give your site a try and see if I can improve.

  3. This gives all small business owners some hope, when going against big time companies that pay top dollar for their SEO budget

    • Yes I’ve found when training small business owner’s to do their own SEO it is surprising how quickly they can pick it up. If they are prepared to put the effort in, they can achieve just as good a results as the professionals and often better.
