How much should SEO cost from an SEO Company?

Or what is a fair price to pay…

We’ve found that SEO done well takes time. On average it takes us a minimum of half an hour to effectively optimise a page. Professional SEO rates are from £30 to £70 per hour, so it is fairly easy to work out roughly how much it will cost.

Fixed cost per month

Some SEO companies have a set price per month and do so many pages as other SEO work based on this fixed price. This can be fine as long as you have agreed with them exactly what they are doing and your expected outputs (such as more visitors or enquiries).

We work with a number of clients ongoing typically charging them around £200 to £300 a month and optimise the pages as well as other SEO related tasks such as advice on content writing or monitoring search engine position.

SEO does take time

The problem is optimising a website properly does take time and involves a certain level of skill. This is why the cost can seem high. As long as your SEO company is achieving good results, then that’s fine, but it they need to work on the site for a while before the results come in, how do you know it’s all going to work out in the end.

Are they open and honest with you?

If you’re spending one to two hundred pounds a month with an SEO consultancy it is not unreasonable to expect them to keep you updated with how things are going, and outline the work they are doing, and why they are doing it.

Learn as much as you can yourself if you have the time

On the menu above there are plenty of SEO tips and tutorials for you to learn enough, so you can ask the right questions and hopefully not have the wool pulled over your eyes, regarding the work your SEO company is doing.

  1. Hi Mike,
I’m back. Thanks for your confirmation.
In Vietnam its around 10-15$ per hour.
But i’m wondering it’s the time for onsite audit or consulting or link building? I think each stage has a specific rate.

    • Hi there,
Yes I agree that each state has a different rate and some services are worth more than others. We think direct consulting or one to one training should be more because the client is getting double value as they cna use the information afterwards. Anyway thanks for the feed back.

    • Thanks for your comment. We’ve estimated this rate for SEO work and it is our view rather than based on any published rates. As we’re based in the UK it’s more about this country, and we don’t really know rates in other countries.

  2. I try to stay up to speed on what’s going on in this space because it’s where my passion lies. I have to say that this article provides a rare insight in to the subject and delivers information that isn’t easily found. Congratulations to an author I will continue to follow.
